There is a slight odor when using my Empress Gild Machine.

That odor comes from the new silicone heating pad as it warms the dies and foil. It’s very similar to the scent of new shoes or other new rubber/silicone products—completely normal for brand-new silicone material.

Here’s what to expect:

The scent is strongest at the beginning, then becomes much lighter after about 5 minutes of heating each time you use it.

With regular use, the odor will fade more and more and typically disappears within 7–10 days.

For extra comfort during the first week of use, we recommend placing your machine in a well-ventilated area while it warms up.
