In the busy rhythm of life, it’s easy to forget that finding balance is one of the greatest gifts we can give ourselves. Global Wellness Day on June 14 is a wonderful reminder to slow down and nurture our well-being, not just in big ways but in the everyday moments that matter most.
One of the ways I’ve always found balance is through the simple joy of making. When we craft, we step away from the rush of our to-do lists and give ourselves permission to be fully present. In those moments, time seems to stand still. The worries of the day fade away, and all that matters is the beautiful thing taking shape right in front of us. It’s a kind of peace that’s hard to find anywhere else.
Research has actually shown that creating art can lower the body’s stress hormone, cortisol, and spark the release of dopamine, the chemical that helps us feel happiness. It’s no wonder, then, that people who make creativity a part of their lives often feel a deeper sense of connection, both with themselves and with others. Making something by hand, no matter how simple or intricate, reminds us that we are capable of creating meaning in our lives.
But crafting does more than lift our spirits. Every time we create, we’re also building our resilience. We are practicing patience. We are learning that it’s perfectly okay to make mistakes and that sometimes, the most beautiful things come from the unexpected twists and turns. When we craft, we remind ourselves that life isn’t about perfection. It’s about finding joy in the process and celebrating the journey, even when it gets a little messy.
Over time, those small creative moments strengthen our confidence, too. When we create something from essentially nothing, we’re building self-efficacy, the belief in ourselves to try new things and actually execute. That belief spills over into other parts of our lives, helping us approach challenges with a stronger sense of self.
At Anna Griffin, Inc., we design every product with that spirit in mind. Our Simply Paisley Scrapbooking Kit, for example, was made to inspire moments of self-expression. The colors and patterns are meant to spark your imagination, inviting you to make something that feels uniquely your own. Whether you’re crafting for yourself or making something special for a loved one, it’s a way to slow down, express your heart, and create something that lasts.
As we celebrate Global Wellness Day this June, I hope you’ll take a little time for yourself. Find a sunny spot by a window, let the light warm your face, and allow your hands to bring something beautiful to life. In the simple act of creating, you will find the kind of balance that no schedule or checklist can ever give you.
Because one of the best ways to take care of yourself is simply to create.

Well said, Anna! When I’m making cards I feel like the “Calgon” commercial. Take me away!
So very true, being creative helps your mind and soul, it gives us time to be quiet and our mind to soar. Even just reviewing items like this gives us peace and that spark of creativity is allowed to ignite. Thank you Anna and team for always working to bring us new and inspiring creativitiy.
Absolutely so true!
Being creative — whether it’s playing a musical instrument or even crafting — can do wonders for the soul.
Thank you, Anna & team, for inspiring us and thus sending many of us crafters to new heights, as evidenced by so many wonderful creations.
Beautiful written! So much healing takes place in my craft room or any place that creativity and creation is the driver!
When life seems to be a bit overwhelming and circumstances unexpected it is great to be able to go into my craft room and create something. Just to relax and let my mind focus on a card or scrapbook page. Thanks Anna and your team for keeping us inspired!! 🌸
