In the busy rhythm of life, it’s easy to forget that finding balance is one of the greatest gifts we can give ourselves. Global Wellness Day on June 14 is a wonderful reminder to slow down and nurture our well-being, not just in big ways but in the everyday moments that matter most.
One of the ways I’ve always found balance is through the simple joy of making. When we craft, we step away from the rush of our to-do lists and give ourselves permission to be fully present. In those moments, time seems to stand still. The worries of the day fade away, and all that matters is the beautiful thing taking shape right in front of us. It’s a kind of peace that’s hard to find anywhere else.
Research has actually shown that creating art can lower the body’s stress hormone, cortisol, and spark the release of dopamine, the chemical that helps us feel happiness. It’s no wonder, then, that people who make creativity a part of their lives often feel a deeper sense of connection, both with themselves and with others. Making something by hand, no matter how simple or intricate, reminds us that we are capable of creating meaning in our lives.
But crafting does more than lift our spirits. Every time we create, we’re also building our resilience. We are practicing patience. We are learning that it’s perfectly okay to make mistakes and that sometimes, the most beautiful things come from the unexpected twists and turns. When we craft, we remind ourselves that life isn’t about perfection. It’s about finding joy in the process and celebrating the journey, even when it gets a little messy.
Over time, those small creative moments strengthen our confidence, too. When we create something from essentially nothing, we’re building self-efficacy, the belief in ourselves to try new things and actually execute. That belief spills over into other parts of our lives, helping us approach challenges with a stronger sense of self.
At Anna Griffin, Inc., we design every product with that spirit in mind. Our Simply Paisley Scrapbooking Kit, for example, was made to inspire moments of self-expression. The colors and patterns are meant to spark your imagination, inviting you to make something that feels uniquely your own. Whether you’re crafting for yourself or making something special for a loved one, it’s a way to slow down, express your heart, and create something that lasts.
As we celebrate Global Wellness Day this June, I hope you’ll take a little time for yourself. Find a sunny spot by a window, let the light warm your face, and allow your hands to bring something beautiful to life. In the simple act of creating, you will find the kind of balance that no schedule or checklist can ever give you.
Because one of the best ways to take care of yourself is simply to create.

Thanks Anna for the beautiful words. I am dealing with alot right now and creating my cards and scrapbooks is the only pleasure I get. It is my saving grace.
Anna, I have always known this. However you put it so eloquently and succinctly. I have done needlework and sewing since I was a small child. I have done the Lambeth method of cake decorating. Then I was introduced to paper crafting. I love to create. Now that I am old, I need to make more of an effort to remain motivated to create. I know the importance of this. When life challenges us, we need an outlet. When my husband passed, a friend gave me two things. A hummingbird feeder that attached to the window and an adult coloring book. I had never seen one. I bought some colored pencils and spent my nights coloring. It did keep my mind off the obvious. Then I saw an interesting piece on line from CNN. It explained how this affects our brain. Very fascinating! You might look it up. Thank you for such an informative article. I will share it with a crafting group that I belong to.
Thanks, Anna for your inspiring words. I have found as I’ve aged, making scrapbooks & cards with your lovely papers & projects a godsend. I’m now 83 & have followed you since the days of QVC & Sandy Genovese. Ive been retired & an empty nester for over 30 years & starting to get bored & depressed. Getting back to scrapbooking has saved my life. Thank you Anna & Team. You’ve brought so much inspiration & beauty to my life.
The art of making has helped me find my footing during a time of grief and given me an outlet for my creative urges. It is a meditative and intense time when I craft. Thank you, Anna, for showing me the way.
Anna, I agree with you, when I am creating, I am in my own world enjoying the peace and quiet that comes with creating projects. I try to carve out time and space for creativity at least once a week or more if possible. Thank you for the inspirational words. Everyone have a great and relaxing weekend and may God bless everyone.
